A large genus of succulent perennials that mostly prefer full sun on well drained soil. Propagation is easily done from division and stem cuttings taken during late summer. Larger growing Sedums such as 'Autumn Joy' can be propagated by cutting back by half during late spring then sticking the prunings in sandy soil - they root easily. Keep cuttings out of full sun until they have formed roots. Extremely drought tolerant as well as tolerant of heat, salt, excessive wind and even fire. The groundcover Sedums are popular for green roofs.
Sedums are not generally eaten by deer but do attract butterflies and bees.
