Vauquelina californica ( California Rosewood )
A moderate growing, small tree, native to southern California, southern Arizona and the Baja Peninsula. Some records include: largest on record - 47 x 40 feet with a trunk diameter of 2.1 feet. It makes a great informal hedge or small street tree.
The toothed, lance-shaped leaves are up to 4 x 1.5 inches in size. The leathery foliage is deep green.
The white flowers are borne during late spring.
Hardy zones 8 to 10 in full sun on sandy, well drained soil. It is very heat tolerant but may be prone to scorch from reflected sun in the hottest parts of the desert southwest.
