Myosotis scorpioides
A very vigorous, long-lived, rhizomatous, mat-forming perennial, reaching up to 3.3 ( rarely over 1.5 ) feet, that is native to riverbanks and marshes in most of northern and central Europe. It has naturalized in the northeastern North America to as far north as Thunder Bay and Wawa, Ontario. It has also naturalized from the Aleutian Islands to Fairbanks, Alaska to Revelstoke, British Columbia; south to southern Oregon to southeast Idaho.
The ovate leaves are mid-green.
The bright blue flowers, up to 0.3 inches wide, are borne on cymes during late spring into early autumn.
Hardy zones 4 to 8 in full sun to partial shade on very moist to wet soil or at the waters edge. Propagation is from division or seed sown during spring.
Myosotis sylvatica
A short-lived perennial, reaching up to 1.5 feet, that is a widespread native of temperate Eurasia including most of Europe. It is naturalized in open mixed or deciduous woodland to as far north as Tobermory in Ontario.
The hairy leaves are deep green.
The pale blue flowers, up to 0.3 inches wide, are borne late spring into early summer.
Hardy zones 5 to 8 in full sun to partial shade on just about any moist soil. It is prone to powdery mildew on dry sites. It can be a prolific self seeder.
